WooCommerce stores can save you a few quid!

Scruffymonkey have been working on a few projects lately where the client has come to us due to the soaring cost of fees using other e-Commerce platforms such at eBay and Shopify to name a few.

WooCommerce, eBay, and Shopify are three popular e-commerce platforms, each with its own strengths and benefits. We are not here to bash the other platforms, they each have their advantages. At Scruffymonkey we of course use WordPress and therefore use WooCommerce for all of our client projects.

Here are some of the advantages of WooCommerce over eBay and Shopify that are worth thinking about:

  1. Flexibility and Control: WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress, an open-source content management system. This means you have complete control over your online store and can customise it extensively to meet your specific requirements. You can choose from a wide range of themes and plugins, and modify the code if needed. In contrast, eBay and Shopify offer less customisation options.
  2. Cost: WooCommerce itself is free to use, although you may need to pay for hosting, domain, and premium themes or plugins (Of course we have you covered on this as part of the web project). It is a cost-effective option, especially for small businesses or startups with limited budgets once the site is built and up and running. eBay and Shopify, on the other hand, require monthly subscription fees and also charge large transaction fees for certain plans.
  3. Ownership and Portability: With WooCommerce, you have full ownership of your store and its data. You can host it on any web server and switch hosting providers easily if needed. In contrast, eBay and Shopify are hosted platforms, meaning you’re dependent on their infrastructure and terms of service. If they decide to change their policies or shut down, you could potentially lose your store.
  4. Scalability: WooCommerce offers excellent scalability options. As your business grows, you can scale your store to accommodate increasing traffic and change its setup depending on your shops products. While eBay and Shopify can handle high traffic volumes, they may have limitations in terms of customisation and advanced functionality.
  5. Integration with WordPress: If you’re already familiar with WordPress or have an existing WordPress website, WooCommerce seamlessly integrates with it. You can leverage the vast ecosystem of WordPress plugins and tools to enhance your online store’s functionality and marketing capabilities. This integration can simplify your workflow and provide a unified experience for managing your website and store.

Ultimately, the choice between WooCommerce, eBay, and Shopify depends on your specific business needs, budget, technical expertise, and the level of control and customisation you require.
