GA4 – What it means for our Maintenance and Support Clients

Google Analytics 4 is here.

This is a major overhaul in how Google Analytics measures and analyses a website’s success. This update makes sure your website is ready for the future of the web and everything you could possible want to be is measured, now and in the future.

If you are reading this and are one of our Website Support Clients, Ace news! This has all been taken care of for you behind the scenes as part of your package, allowing you to do what you do best.

All of our website support clients receive a report on the 1st of every month showing all of the technical work which has been done on their sites such as security updates, backups, monitoring and a basic overview of how their website is performing through displaying Google Analytics information.

Due to the change with GA4 it is displayed slightly differently.

Here is what’s displayed and what it means:

Active Users

Active users are the number of distinct users who visited your website. An active user is any user who has an engaged session e.g clicking on something, visiting other pages or completing a form.

New Users

New Users are the number of people who interacted with your website for the first time.

Views

The total number of web pages your users saw. Repeated views of a single page are counted.

Engagement Rate

The number of engaged sessions divided by the total number of sessions over a specified time period. An engaged sessions is the number of sessions that lasted 10 seconds or longer, or had 1 or more conversion events or 2 or more page or screen views.

This is the opposite of bounce rate. The bounce rate is the percentage of sessions that were not engaged (people left the page without engaging with anything). So a high engagement rate and a low bounce rate is what you are looking for.
